With its loss in the WCC Championship game, Saint Mary's is now sitting square on the bubble.
The loss to Gonzaga on Monday night did not hurt the Gaels in any way but it has left some doubt about their consistency.
Saint Mary's rolled through the first three quarters of the season before losing four of the last six games, beginning with the loss at San Diego.
The Gaels have one game left on the schedule before Selection Sunday and that will be Friday when they host Weber State.
A win does not do much, if anything, for its tournament profile but a loss would all but eliminate Saint Mary's from the conversation.
Gonzaga, on the other hand, is playing its best basketball right now.
Since losing to Saint Mary's at the Kennel on January 24, the Bulldogs are 11-1.
This success has been in large part due to the development of freshmen Sam Dower and David Stockton.
The pair has given Gonzaga legitimate options on the bench.
David, son of Basketball Hall of Famer John Stockton, has started to show flashes of his dad's skill and court vision. He has been Gonzaga's best point guard down the stretch.
