It needs to be said. What are the odds makers in Las Vegas thinking?
According to VegasInsider.com, the teams with the best chance to win the World Series are the following:
Phillies - 3:1
Red Sox - 9:2
Yankees - 5:1
Giants - 15:1
Cardinals - 20:1
Rangers - 20:1
Twins - 20:1
Rockies - 25:1
Braves - 25:1
Reds - 25:1
Rays - 25:1
Please tell me how the Phillies should have the best chances?
Won't they be without Chase Utley until July? Without Brad Lidge until May?
Not only do the Phillies have the best chance to win a World Series, they are also a 1:1 favorite to win the National League.
The Phillies are one of the oldest teams in baseball, with only one significant player younger than 30 (Cole Hamels). Injuries will be a recurring problem for Philadelphia.
I'm hoping this is Vegas' way to prey on the bandwagon jumping Phillies supporters that refuse to see the deficiencies in their team.
The Yankees should not even sniff the World Series with their pitching staff. They had to go out and sign Kevin Milwood as an insurance policy.
Sergio Mitre was supposed to compete for a rotation spot and he was shipped off to Milwaukee.
Yankees are the third favorite? Not a chance.
