| Did Brian Sabean overstep on this one? |
While Sabean was on the Razor and Mr. T Show on KNBR, he vilified Cousins for the hit and, goes as far as to say this moment will not be soon forgotten.
Cousins, who is a resident of San Francisco and a graduate of the University of San Francisco, has been the topic of discussion since the hit on Posey but Sabean may have gone too far.
"If I never hear from Cousins again or he never plays another game in the big leagues, I think we'll all be happy...He chose to be a hero in my mind, and if that's his flash of fame, that's as good as it's going to get, pal. We'll have a long memory. Believe me, we've talked to (former catcher Mike) Matheny about how this game works. You can't be that out-and-out overly aggressive. I'll put it as politically as I can state it: There's no love lost and there shouldn't be."
- Brian Sabean on KNBR Radio
Every Giants fan understands Sabean's frustration with what happened but with the position he holds within the organization, his comments were completely uncalled for and dangerous.
According to Cousins' lawyer, the second year player started receiving death threats and what Sabean said could make matters worse.
How has this injury resulted in all of this?
It's not like collisions at home plate have not been going on for a while.
Baseball has been played the same way for over 100 years and not since Pete Rose running down Ray Fosse in an All-Star Game has there been this sort of outcry.
I leave with this and Giants fans, tell me if I'm wrong.
Would this be this big of an issue if it were anybody but Buster Posey?
The answer is no.
