It Just Wouldn't End...

And we go to the 10th... the 11th... the 12th... all the way to the 14th. It was an endurance test to watch it all. I was getting woozy and delirious watching it.

I thought the game was going to be decided on a Bill Buckner-esque boot from Eric Hosmer. Then the guy who nearly tied Game 7 against the Giants last year tied it up in the 9th this year (Alex Gordon).

At one point in this game, there were technical difficulties from FOX Sports. We got the MLB international broadcast with Matt Vasgersian and John Smoltz, which made me very happy. That is until they moved Joe Buck and crew into their digs.

It got to the point that Chris Young and Bartolo Colon were in the game at the same time.

All the while, Twitter was the place to be and here are some of my highlights from the night. And this was just Game 1!

The FOX truck lost power during the broadcast. Dallas, did you have something to do with this?

Here is Bartolo celebrating NBA Opening Night. Well, not really but it's impressive.

I was thinking the same thing...

Can you imagine this? I lost it on this one.

It's Been Too Long

I'm having withdrawal. Baseball withdrawal. A base-drawal if you will. Okay, maybe a bit too corny but the point remains the same. It's been too long since there has been a baseball game.

I've had to wait since Friday for anything?

It's not quite that bad but let's just say the period right after the World Series is kind of depressing in my sports world. But we do get one more series and it should be an epic one.

Two teams that have not won a title since the '80s? Two teams that are constructed very differently.

The Mets are pitching heavy and are rolling into the Fall Classic. To this point, they have beaten Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Jon Lester, and Jake Arrieta and all have fallen victim to Daniel Murphy.

It's as though the soul of Babe Ruth himself has possessed Murphy and infused him with unholy power. Home runs in six straight games would be impressive for a Little Leaguer. This dude has home runs in six straight postseason games!

I couldn't do that playing World Series Baseball on my old Sega Genesis.

It has the Mets feeling like...

(Bat) Flipping Crazy

There was no other way for than inning to end was there? After everything that led up to that moment... the ball off Shin Soo Choo's hand, the three straight errors, the play at the plate with a takeout slide, the visceral reaction from the Toronto crowd... it was the perfect ending with the perfect player with the perfect bat flip to an inning that will go down as one of the best and craziest in baseball history.

And unless you are a Rangers fan, how can you not love watching this over and over again?

And listening to the explosion from the Rogers Centre crowd, you would have thought the Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup. That was not a baseball crowd, that was a hockey crowd!

Cubs, Cubs, Cubs!!!

Who else is about ready to rewatch Back to the Future II? Sitting on the couch when it comes on AMC or downloading it from NetFlix or dusting off the old VHS player (the younger kids just don't know...).

You all remember the scene, right? Marty is in the Hill Valley town square in the year 2015 when he sees a video board that flashes the sports update of the Cubs winning the World Series. It was made to seem so farfetched.

In true Cubs fashion, they did not when any between 1989 and now. But it's now 2015 and the Cubs may be on the way to turning the writers and producers of the movie into prophets.

High-Powered Pitching has NL up for Grabs

If it wasn't clear in the last couple of years, it is now. The National League has returned to being the power league in baseball and it all starts with the pitching, which will be on full display in the postseason.

Let's go quickly down the list: Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Jake Arrieta, Jon Lester, Noah Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey, Michael Wacha, Lance Lynn, Gerrit Cole, Francisco Liriano. Seven players with ERAs below 3.00, four Cy Youngs, an MVP, and only three on this list over the age of 30.

That is an impressive list and that isn't even counting Adam Wainwright, who just came back to the Cardinals' bullpen, or John Lackey or A.J. Burnett.

Seemingly every team in the National League has at least two aces. We have the NL Wild Card Game being a matchup up of Arrieta (1.77 ERA) and Cole (2.60). The Game 1 matchup between the Mets and Dodgers is Kershaw (2.13) and deGrom (2.54) in the mid-afternoon shadows at Dodger Stadium.

First to three runs wins?
