It's Been Too Long

I'm having withdrawal. Baseball withdrawal. A base-drawal if you will. Okay, maybe a bit too corny but the point remains the same. It's been too long since there has been a baseball game.

I've had to wait since Friday for anything?

It's not quite that bad but let's just say the period right after the World Series is kind of depressing in my sports world. But we do get one more series and it should be an epic one.

Two teams that have not won a title since the '80s? Two teams that are constructed very differently.

The Mets are pitching heavy and are rolling into the Fall Classic. To this point, they have beaten Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Jon Lester, and Jake Arrieta and all have fallen victim to Daniel Murphy.

It's as though the soul of Babe Ruth himself has possessed Murphy and infused him with unholy power. Home runs in six straight games would be impressive for a Little Leaguer. This dude has home runs in six straight postseason games!

I couldn't do that playing World Series Baseball on my old Sega Genesis.

It has the Mets feeling like...

Then there are the back-to-back defending American League champion Kansas City Royals. Will Lorde's music be banned in NYC like it was in San Francisco last year?

Speaking of last year, it had to leave a bitter taste in the Royals' mouths, being a mere 90 feet away from sending Game 7 to extra innings. Despite their resolve this year, I just don't know if that team is put together the right way to beat the Mets.

Dominant pitching is the proven winner in October and the Mets have a lot of it. The Royals have a rotation that has MacGyver'd it's way to the Series. KC has a team ERA of 4.41, third highest of the postseason, and has two quality starts in 11 games. The Mets just happen to have the best at 2.81 with five quality starts in nine games.

But one of the best things about baseball is its unpredictability. Way too often you know which basketball team, which football will win. It is clear. Not with baseball. The smallest of occurrences can change the game completely. A sacrifice bunt, a stolen base, a wild pitch, a ball off the top of the centerfield wall (sorry, Rangers fans).

What am I getting at? Can we please get to Tuesday already and play Game 1 of the World Series, please?
